New Jersey's Recycled Content Law raises minimum postconsumer recycled content requirements for plastic containers, beverage containers, carryout bags, and trash bags on January 18, 2027. Manufacturers, brand owners, and importers selling covered products in New Jersey must register and certify compliance with NJDEP every year by December 31.

Noncompliance can mean civil penalties up to $25,000 per violation per day, court-ordered penalties up to $50,000 per day, and criminal liability for a false certification.
